India's graphite electrode production rises 40% y-o-y

Domestic graphite electrode production across grades rose by 40% y-o-y to 140,000 t in 2021, as domestic consumption rose sharply alongside exports. Annual domestic consumption stood at 60,000-65,000 t, while exports were recorded at 70,148 t last year, up 28% y-o-y. Higher crude steel output in Turkey and the USA fuelled the rise in exports, while anti-dumping duty on Chinese electrodes enabled Indian suppliers to command high prices.
