China's coal imports from Mongolia reached an all-time high of 7.89 mnt in Nov'23, surging over twofold from 3.77 mnt in Nov'22. China's total coal imports for the month reached 43.51 mnt. Over 76% of Mongolian shipments comprised high-quality coking coal. Mongolia, surpassing Russia, is now China's second-largest coal supplier, after Indonesia. Russia's export tax reduced competitiveness, and Australian coal shipments lagged despite the end of China's unofficial ban. Mongolia achieved its annual export target of 50 mnt in Nov'23.
