Ferro scrap
- In India, the demand for imported scrap in containers remained sluggish as buyers favoured cost-effective domestic sourcing. The gap between seller's prices and buyer's bids dampened demand, though a few bulk bookings were noted.
- Fresh shipments are expected at Chennai port in mid-December. Some recent transactions include 2,000 t of HMS (80:20) scraps from Europe at $395/t CFR Mundra and 9,500 t of NTP scraps from Italy/Europe at $420-425/t CFR Chennai.
- A trader mentioned, "At present, we are not inclined to secure new material due to our existing substantial inventories. The materials booked in the August-October period are anticipated to be delivered, and we are well-supplied until January. Additionally, financial constraints are a consideration. Therefore, we plan to recommence purchasing in December for shipments scheduled for February and March."

Finished-long steel
- Finished Long Steel (IF Route): India's induction furnace route finished long steel market witnessed a slight price correction this week. Weak buying interest at offer prices quoted via sellers as well as a similar trend in semi-finished steel across various regions were the major factors that prompted manufacturers to decrease offer prices. Despite the decline in offers, limited trades were observed in the spot market. Constant price fluctuations and lack of clarity in the market direction compelled buyers to avoid any bulk procurement at the moment.
- W-o-w, in rebar steel prices decreased by INR 200-900/t across the regions as per SteelMint's assessment.
- The trade reference price of Fe 500 grade rebar manufactured via the IF route for 10-25 mm size was assessed at INR 43,800-44,200/t exw Raipur, INR 48,700-49,300/t exw Jalna.

Finished flat steel
- The HRC and CRC trade price assessments (biweekly) have dropped slightly by around INR 100-500/t this week in a few markets. On the other hand, have remained rangebound, in a few of the other markets under assessment. The slow resumption of buyers post the Diwali festive holidays, and the air around elections has kept the market a bit inert. Plates and coated flat steel product assessments that were withheld in the previous week, showed a decline. Availability of labourers remained a concern too, informed some sources.
- On the global trade front, there have been no trades deals heard over the last 7 days. The Indian origin HRC export offers were heard quoted a little higher around $690-695/t CFR Antwerp, Europe.
- Meanwhile, the Indian manufacturers are yet to break the silence for the Middle East and the Vietnamese markets. These regions lay the platform for the SteelMint India HRC (SAE1006) export index. The last update on 19 September had stood at $580/t FOB east coast, India basis.
