Vietnam: Imported scrap offers from US up; Japanese suppliers await Kanto result

US scrap offers in the Vietnam market gained last week, while Japanese scrap offers were mostly absent, as Japan was closed for a week for the Obon holidays.

Japanese suppliers are waiting for the monthly Kanto tender results for more price clarity, which is scheduled on 19th Aug '20, SteelMint learnt from its sources.

  • SteelMint's assessment for Japanese H2 stands at $280/t CFR level, up by $2 against last week's assessment reported at $278/t CFR Vietnam.

  • HMS offers from USA to Vietnam in bulk have increased by around $10 w-o-w and are currently at $307-310/t CFR basis. However, no firm deals have been concluded at this level. SteelMint's assessment remains at $295-305/t, CFR Vietnam.


Indonesia imported scrap offers up: Imported scrap offers to Indonesia last week increased from the preceding week's level, following the global price trend.

  • P&S offers in 20 ft containers available in the range of $305-310/t CFR Jakarta last week, up by $5-10/t w-o-w.

  • Whereas, P&S in 40 ft containers is being offered in the range of $290-295/t CFR Jakarta.

  • Busheling scrap offers in 20 ft containers are at around $ 315-210/t CFR Jakarta, up by $5-10/t on a weekly basis.

  • HMS 1&2 (80:20) sales were reported at $275-280/t CFR Jakarta basis, up by $5-10 w-o-w.

  • Also, shredded 211 were quoted at around $290-295/t CFR Jakarta.

Thailand mill booked bulk scrap cargo last week: Trades for imported scrap in Thailand have improved over the week. A major steel manufacturer based in Thailand booked bulk cargo of shredded from USWC at around $305/t, CFR Thailand, a week ago.

  • Central American origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) is being traded around $250/t CFR Thailand, down by $10 against last offers.

  • A steel manufacturer booked 5000 t of Central American origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) scrap in containers at around $245-250/t, CFR Thailand.
