USA Finish Long Steel Imports Stabilized in Feb'18

USA, the world's 4th largest steel producer has witnessed balanced in its Finish long steel imports M-o-M in Feb'18.

As per the customs, the nation has imported about 290,000 MT Finish Long steel in February 2018 against 290,000 MT in January 2018, seems firmed on monthly premises. On the contrary Y-o-Y, imports were down by 27.5% against 400,000 MT in Feb'17.

Bar's & Rods have contributed the major proportionate and registered 150,000 MT with 52% & down by 17% M-o-M basis followed by Angle and Shapes 90,000 MT with 31% & increase by around 50% monthly and MS Wire 50,000 MT with 17% and no change on monthly basis excluding Pipes and Tubes.

As per the SteelMint's assessment in February 2018, the crude steel production of the USA was around 6.45 MnT drop by 5.42% against January 2018 with 6.82 MnT.

On the other hand ferrous scrap exports increased by 34% M-o-M to 1.47 MnT in Feb'18 against 1.1 MnT in Jan'18.

Country wise:

In the month of February 2018, the largest exporter of Finish Long Steel to USA was Canada - 60,000 MT followed by Mexico at 50,000 MT & Turkey at 20,000 MT.

1. The reference index price for US origin HMS (80:20) scrap stood at USD 355/MT, CFR Turkey as per last assessment.

2. Semi Finished (Pig Iron) imports shrunk to 16.32% M-o-M to 0.41 MnT in Feb'18 against 0.49 MnT in Jan'18.
