Imports of copper products by the US were recorded at 98,073 tonnes (t) in November 2022, down by 15% m-o-m as against 115,131 t in October. Out of total imports, semi-finished products stood at 37,803 t (down by 26%), finished products at 51,150 t (down by 4%), and scrap at 9,121 t (down by 16%).
The country's y-o-y copper imports were down by 19% in November 2022 as compared against the previous year which was around 121,712 t.
Country-wise imports
- Imports from Canada fall m-o-m: Imports from Canada stood at 34,183 t in November which was down by 15% compared to 40,377 t in October. The volumes stood stable with a slight increase of 1% y-o-y from 33,926 t in November, 2021.
- Imports from Chile down m-o-m: Chile, a major copper exporter to the US, supplied 22,522 t in November, a fall of 19% m-o-m as against 27,659 t in the previous month. Shipments were drastically down by 23% y-o-y compared to 29,224 t in November, 2021.
- Imports from Mexico decrease m-o-m: The US imported 8,187 t from Mexico in November, lower by 15% m-o-m from 9,636 t in October. The volumes fell by 41% y-o-y compared to 13,980 t in November, 2021.
