USA: Aluminium imports rise significantly by 27% m-o-m in Oct'22

Imports of aluminium products were recorded at 1.10 million tonnes (mnt) in October 2022, a rise of 27% m-o-m against 873,067 t in September. Of the total imports, ores/concentrates stood at 516,230 t (up 73%), semi-finished products at 349,049 t (up 5%), finished products at 194,219 t (stable m-o-m) and scrap at 50,459 t (up 6%).

The country's cumulative aluminium imports went up by 8% y-o-y to 10.5 mnt in January-October 2022 compared from 9.76 mnt in the corresponding period last year.

Country-wise imports-

• • • Imports from Canada largely stable m-o-m: Imports from Canada stood at 274,536 t in October which were largely stable with a slight change of 1% compared to September. Similarly, on a y-o-y basis, the volumes decreased by 9% from 302,047 t in October 2021.
      
      
    • Imports from Jamaica surge m-o-m: Jamaica, a major exporter to USA, supplied 249,087 t in October, a drastic rise of 99% m-o-m as against 125,369 t in the previous month. Shipments decreased by 14% y-o-y compared to 291,253 t in October 2021.
      
      
    • Imports from Brazil increase m-o-m: USA imported 61,469 t from Brazil in October, higher by 55% m-o-m from 39,753 t in September. On a y-o-y basis, the volumes inched up by 2% compared to 60,107 t in October 2021.
