The US's zinc imports stood at 66,646 tonnes (t) in November 2022, a slight decrease m-o-m compared to 66,679 t in October. Similarly, on a yearly basis, import volumes rose by 26% as against 52,794 t in November 2021.
Out of total volumes, semi-finished products stood at 65,780 t (stable m-o-m) and zinc scrap at 866 t in November, up 18% from 733 t in October.
Country-wise imports-
Imports from Canada: Zinc imports from Canada stood at 23,182 t in November, up 11% compared to 20,971 t in October. Volumes went down by 45% y-o-y compared to 42,276 t in November 2021.
Imports from Mexico: Imports from Mexico decreased by 8% m-o-m to 11,853 t in the month under review as against 12,876 t in October. Volume rose by 45% y-o-y from 8,174 t in the corresponding month of last year.
Imports from Peru: Imports from Peru were recorded at 6,259 t in November, down from 7,553 t in the previous month or 17%. However, imports increased drastically by 189% as against 2,168 t in November 2021.
Zinc exports fall
The country's zinc exports stood at 42,006 t in November, falling sharply by 64% m-o-m from 115,484 t in October. Similarly, exports fell by 13% y-o-y from 48,128 t in November 2021.
Exports of ores/concentrates stood at 33,077 t (down 68% m-o-m ), semi-finished products exports were up 2% at 3,353 t, while zinc scrap shipments stood at 5,576 t, decreasing by 38%.
Country-wise imports-
Exports to Canada increase: The US exported 28,162 t of zinc products to Canada in November, a sharp decrease of 88% m-o-m compared to 14,971 t in October. Exports were up 6% from 26,605 t in November 2021.
Exports to Japan inch up: Exports to Japan stood at 7,634 t in the month under review, up 779% compared to 868 t in October. Compared to November 2021, exports rose by a staggering 1045%.
Exports to Mexico down: Exports to Mexico inched down by 19% m-o-m to 1,468 t in November as against 1,818 t in October. Exports fell by 51% on the year compared to November 2021.
