US: Manganese alloys imports almost double m-o-m in Feb'22

Manganese alloys (silico manganese and ferro manganese) imports into the United States surged by 99% m-o-m to 92,857 tonnes (t) in February 2022 from 46,652 in January 2022. The hike in imports was mainly because of the increase in crude steel production by 1.4% to 6.4 t in February, 2022 which led to the increased demand for manganese alloys in the US market.

Silico manganese imports up 71% m-o-m

Silico manganese imports into the US increased by 71% in February 2022 from 29,615 t in January 2022.

Georgia was one of the major exporting countries with 15,638 t (up 1,145%) followed by South Africa with 15,600 t, Australia 5,404 t, and Norway 1,590 t on a monthly basis in February, 2022.

Meanwhile, on a yearly basis, imports increased sharply by 181% to 80,428 t from 28,623 t in January 2022.

Ferro manganese imports rise 146% m-o-m

US ferro manganese imports increased by 146% to 42,044 t in February 2022 from 17,037 t January 2022. However, on a yearly basis, imports decreased by 10% in February 2022.

Major exporting countries to the US were Malaysia with 91,00 t, up 91% m-o-m, followed by Australia with 11,707 t, and South Africa, 1,953 t in February 2022.
