US: Aluminium imports decrease by 8% m-o-m in Nov'22

Imports of aluminium products by the US were recorded at 1.02 million tonnes (mnt) in November 2022, down 8% m-o-m from 1.11 mnt in October. Out of total imports, ore/concentrates stood at 472,729 t (down 8%), semi-finished products at 276,354 t (down 21%), finished products at 173,176 t (down 11%), and scrap at 94,106 t (up sharply by 86%).

The country's total aluminium imports rose by 5% y-o-y to 11.52 mnt in January-November, 2022, compared with 10.93 mnt in the corresponding period of last year.

Country-wise shipments

• Imports from Canada rise: Imports from Canada stood at 308,565 t in November, up 12% m-o-m from 274,536 t in October. Similarly, on y-o-y basis, imports rose by 2% from 303,161 t in November 2021.
  
  
• Imports from Jamaica largely stable: Jamaica, a major exporter to the US, supplied 247,852 t in November, a decrease of 0.4% compared to October. Shipments decreased by 23% y-o-y compared to 323,782 t in November 2021.
  
  
• Imports from Brazil increase: The US imported 112,195 t from Brazil in November, higher by 82% m-o-m compared to 61,469 t in October. Volumes fell by 13% y-o-y from 129,428 t in November 2021.
