United States: Iron Ore Imports Increased Sharply ;Exports Stable in Q3 CY'18

United States, recorded iron ore imports at 0.37 MnT in Sep'18, down 45% as against 0.67 MnT in Aug'18. However, on yearly basis, imports recorded 32% increase as against Sep'17 imports at 0.28 MnT.

For Q3 CY18, the total imports witnessed at 1.62 MnT, up 71% Q-o-Q as against Q2 CY'18 at 0.95 MnT.

US crude steel production up 4% in Q3 CY18

United States crude steel production recorded 4% rise in Q3 CY18 at 22.11 MnT as against Q2 CY18 production at 21.24 MnT. On yearly basis, output increased 7% as compared to 20.72 MnT in Q3 CY'17.

Canada turns out to be the largest iron ore exporter to US in Sep'18

Canada stood the largest iron ore exporter to United States in the month of Sep'18 with total quantity of 0.19 MnT, (up more than two folds M-o-M) contributing 51% share of total US import for the month, followed by Brazil at 0.12 MnT and Chile at 0.06 MnT.

United States Iron Ore Exports down marginally in Sep'18

United States iron ore exports for the month of Sep'18 witnessed at 1.3 MnT, down 4% on monthly basis as against 1.35 MnT in Aug'18. However, on yearly basis exports witnessed 8% rise as against 1.2 MnT in Sep'17.

For the quarter ending Sep'18, the total iron ore exports by the country marked at 4.18 MnT, stable as against last quarter (ending June'18) at 4.17 MnT.

United States exports to Canada up 10% M-o-M

Canada stood the largest importer of iron ore from US in the month of Sep'18 at 1.02 MnT, contributing 78% of total exports share, up by 10% on monthly basis. Japan stood the second largest importer at 0.26 MnT (down 24% M-o-M), followed by Mexico at 0.02 MnT.
