Ukraine exported 0.349 mnt of ferro alloys in calendar year 2022 (CY22), a declined of 48% compared to last year. Ukraine's international trade in iron and steel has been negatively impacted by the war in Ukraine. Due to the blockade of Ukrainian ports, the conflict caused disruptions in supply and distribution. Domestic companies are being forced to curtail output or shut down due to logistics challenges and sales, sources informed.
Market highlights
- Ukraine's ferro alloys producers increased exports by a marginal 1% m-o-m in December to 30,800 t compared to the previous month.
- Ukraine's major ferro alloys importing countries were Poland with 53% of total volume, followed by the Netherlands, and Romania during the period under review.
- Silico manganese exports fell by 37% to 322,600 t y-o-y in CY22, while ferro manganese exports fell six-fold to a mere 4,800 t, and ferro silicon exports declined four-fold to 15,500 t.
- Ukraine's ferro alloy plants continue to face significant production difficulties due to factors like shortage of power, reduction in global ferro alloys demand, and the very fact that production facilities are located in close proximity to the scene of hostilities. In spite of these challenges, plants are exporting to offload accumulated stocks.
- Ukraine's ferro alloys manufacturing facilities are currently located at Nikopol, Zaporizhzhia, Pobuzhsky, and Kramatorsk.
