Ukraine: Exports of flat steel products rise over 45% m-o-m in Sep'23

Ukraine's exports of flat steel products rose by 46% m-o-m to 158,900 tonnes (t) in September 2023. Exports of flat products surged 263% y-o-y compared to the same month of last year (September 2022).

However, export volumes of flat steel products in January-September this year decreased by 46.7% y-o-y to 785,400 t.

The highest volume of exports comprised hot-rolled flat products without coating at 126,700 t, an increase of 49.6% m-o-m compared to 84,700 t in August. Exports of HR flats in January-September were 591,600 t.

Exports of uncoated cold-rolled flat products were 29,000 t, an increase of 64.9% m-o-m compared to 17,600 t in August. Exports of CR flat products in January-September stood at 150,600 t.

Clad flat-rolled product exports, with galvanic or other coatings, were 2,980 t in September, down 46.7% m-o-m from 5,600 t in August. Exports in January-September were assessed at 41,200 t.

Poland and Bulgaria were the top consumers of Ukrainian rolled steel, with 46.4% and 17.6% of the market share, respectively. For uncoated flat cold-rolled products, Poland (29.6%), Bulgaria (17.9%), and Portugal (7.9%) together accounted for over 60% of shipments. Poland (74%) and Romania (20.4%) were the largest buyers of Ukrainian rolled steel.

Steel enterprises in Ukraine saw an increase in production of rolled products during September by 3.4% m-o-m and 105.9% y-o-y to 523,000 t.
