Ukraine: Exports of flat steel products rise 15% m-o-m in Aug-23

Ukraine's exports of flat steel products rose by 14.3% m-o-m to 108,800 tonnes (t) during August 2023. Exports of flat products increased by 86.6% y-o-y compared to the same month of last year (August 2022).

However, export volumes of flat steel products in January-August this year decreased by 56.2% y-o-y to 626,500 t.

The highest volume of exports comprised hot-rolled flat products at 84,700 t, an increase of 24.8% m-o-m compared to 67,900 t in July. Exports of HR flats in January-August were 464,900 t.

Exports of uncoated cold-rolled flat products were 17,600 t, an increase of 21.9% m-o-m compared to 14,400 t in July. Exports of CR flat products in January-August stood at 121,600 t.

Clad flat-rolled product exports, with galvanic or other coatings, were 5,600 t in August, down 55.2% m-o-m from 12,400 t in July. Exports in January-August were assessed at 38,200 t.

The largest consumers of Ukrainian uncoated hot-rolled flat products were Poland and Bulgaria - accounting for 52% and 16.1% of total exports respectively. Poland (32.8%), Bulgaria (19.9%) and Portugal (8.8%) together consumed more than 60% of uncoated cold-rolled flat products exports by Ukraine. Among the main buyers of Ukrainian coated rolled products were Poland (74.5%) and Romania (19.9%).

Ukrainian flat hot-rolled products without coating are most popular in Poland (48.9%) and Bulgaria (17.9%). Uncoated flat cold-rolled products are mainly consumed in Poland (32.8%), Bulgaria (18.8%) and Portugal (8.1%), accounting for more than 60% of total exports. Poland (74.4%) and Romania (20%) are the main buyers of Ukrainian rolled steel.

Steel enterprises in Ukraine in August saw a decrease in production of rolled products by 3.6% m-o-m at 506,000 t. However, output of rolled products increased by 78.2% y-o-y.
