U.S. Pig iron Imports Rise in September

United States has imported about 0.51 MnT Pig iron in Sept'18, the recent released data by US custom showed.

The imports by the nation recorded a surge of 46.11% M-o-M against 0.35 MnT in Aug'18. During Sep'18, Russia has exported approximately 59% Pig Iron (0.30 MnT) to the nation. While on yearly basis, Pig iron imports by the nation rise by 52.69% in Sep'18 as against 0.33 MnT in Sep'17.

In CY18 (Jan-Sep), the nation has imported about 4.34 MnT Pig Iron; surge by 10.20% as compared to 3.94 MnT in the same preceding last year. Russia, Ukraine & Brazil was the major Pig Iron exporter to United States which exported about 2.26 MnT (52.13%), 1.40 MnT (32.28%) & 0.47 MnT (10.90%), respectively.

As per the SteelMint analysis, in the month of Sep'18, the crude steel production of United States was around 7.25 MnT, decline by 2.81% M-o-M against 7.46 MnT in Aug'18 and in CY18 (Jan-Sep) it was approximately 63.4 MnT, surge by 3.07% against 61.51 MnT in CY17 (Jan-Sep).

In context to export prices, global offers for steel grade pig Iron is assessed at USD 365-375/MT FoB India, USD 360-365/MT FoB Black Sea & USD 345-355/MT FOB Brazil.

USA Billet imports

United States Billet imports plunged by 28.50% & stood at 0.44 MnT in Sep'18. Brazil has exported approximately 0.24 MT billets to USA, decline by 55% against 0.44 MT in Aug'18. Inline billet imports from Russia fall by 29% & stood at 0.12 MnT in Sep'18 as against 0.17 MnT in Aug'18.

The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 455-465/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 455-465/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 500-505/MT FoB China.
