U.S. Imports of Pig iron Decline 23% in October

United States Pig iron imports reported fall by around 116,000 MT (23% M-o-M) in Oct'18, the recent released data by US customs showed.

The nation has imported about 391,276 MT Pig iron in Oct'18 as against 507,415 MT in Sep'18. Inline, on yearly basis, imports decline by 19.62% as against 486,797 MT in Oct'17.

Russia remains the major Pig iron exporter to United States, however in Oct'18 Pig iron export has recorded a decline of 13% M-o-M & stood at 260,068 MT. Inline, Pig iron imports from Ukraine also plunged by 6%, While imports from Brazil fall drastically 92% M-o-M.

In CY18 (Jan-Oct), the nation has imported about 4,729,477 MT Pig Iron; surge by 6.92% as compared to 4,423,312 MT in the same preceding last year. Russia, Ukraine & Brazil was the major Pig Iron exporter to United States which exported about 2,521,747 MT (53.32%), 1,514,940 MT (32.03%) & 478,901 MT (10.13%), respectively.

-- The crude steel production of United States was around 7.57 MnT in Oct'18 higher by 4.41% against 7.25 MnT in Sep'18. Meanwhile, in CY18 (Jan-Oct) the figure of crude steel production stood at 70.97 MnT, & 81.95 MnT in CY17.

-- Presently, the export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 355-365/MT FoB Black Sea, USD 345-355/MT FoB Brazil & USD 365-370/MT FoB India.

USA Billet imports Increase

United States Billet imports rise by 43.05% & stood at 629,510 MT in Oct'18. Brazil has exported approximately 66% (415,988 MT) billets to USA, incline by 71% against 243,432 MT in Sep'18. Inline billet imports from Mexico rise by 86% & stood at 93,716 MT in Oct'18 as against 50,517 MT in Sep'18.

The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 430-440/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 420-430/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 420-430/MT FoB China.
