Imported scrap market leader, Turkiye, has resumed bulk scrap bookings after a pause. A bunch of deals were recorded from USA and the UK recently. Prices have come down in these deals as buyers have bid at a low level.
SteelMint's daily assessment for HMS 1&2 (80:20) from the US stood at $410-415/t CFR Turkiye, down by $5/t w-o-w.
Recent deals
- A Mediteranean region-based steel mill has booked a UK-origin cargo comprising 22,000 t of HMS (80:20) at a price of $400/t CFR Turkiye on 13 January, SteelMint learnt from sources.
- A northen Europe-based steel mill has booked an Amsterdam-origin HMS (80:20) scrap at a price of $408/t CFR on 11 January.
- A West Marmara region-based steel mill has booked a UK/USA cargo comprising HMS (80:20) scrap at a price of $413.5/t CFR Turkiye last weekend.
- A Black Sea-based steel mill has booked a northen Europe-origin HMS (80:20) material at a price of $414/t and bonus scrap at $434/t CFR Turkiye on 12 January.
- An Aegean region-based steel mill has booked a USA-origin cargo comprising HMS (80:20) at a price of $416/t CFR Turkiye in the first half of last week.
Outlook
Turkiye's imported scrap market is now uncertain. Imported prices are likely to go down further and the global market may follow the suit.
