Thailand: Billet Imports Surge by around 15% Q-o-Q in Q1 CY'20

Thailand's Billet & Scrap imports in the first quarter of CY '20 surged, while Finish steel imports slipped, as per the custom data maintained with SteelMint.
Billet imports registered at 1.02 MnT in Q1 CY'20 surged by 14.6% as compared to 0.89 MnT in Q4 CY'19.
Country Wise- Oman stood as major exporter of billet to Thailand and registered volumes at 0.37 MnT in Q1 CY'20 up by 27.5% against 0.29 MnT in Q4 CY'19 followed by Japan which is registered at 0.2 MnT in Q1 CY'20 surged by 82% as compared to 0.11 MnT in Q4 CY'19 while from Russia volume registered at 0.11 MnT higher by 83% against 0.06 MnT in Q4 CY'19.
Ferrous Scrap imports Q-o-Q were registered at 0.38 MnT in Q1 CY'20 surged by 46.15% as against 0.26 MnT in Q4 CY'19.
Country Wise- Thailand majorly imported ferrous scrap from the USA and in the first quarter of CY'20 with volume reported of 0.12 MnT which is up by 200% against the fourth quarter of previous year. Other sources of scrap were Japan and Panama at 0.05 MnT and 0.03 MnT in Q1 CY'20 against 0.02 MnT and 0.03 MnT in Q4 CY'19 respectively.
Finish Long Steel imports registered at 0.25 MnT in Q1 CY'20, slightly down by 7.41% as against 0.27 MnT in Q4 CY'19.
Finish Flat Steel import volumes declined by around 6% to 1.9 MnT in Q1 CY'20 against 2.02 MnT in Q4 CY'19.
Graphite Electrode imports registered at 1,949 MT in Q1 CY'20, up by 12.8% as against 1,728 MT in Q4 CY'19.
