Thailand: Billet Imports Increase Over Two Fold in Nov'19

As per the customs data maintained with SteelMint, Thailand has imported about 0.44 MnT billet in Nov'19, which has increased sharply as against 0.19 MnT in Oct'19. Also on yearly basis, Nov'19 imports recorded robust growth of 238.46% compared to 0.13 MnT in Nov'18.

The key factors behind sharp surge in billet imports attributed seasonal re-stocking by mills along with rising rolling capacities in the nation. Also seems mills preferred importing billets over scrap. Further SteelMint analyzed that before the winter season, there is good demand globally for Billet & Scrap as well, which in turn sharp surge in price range too, during the Nov-Jan period.

In line with this, Thailand's ferrous scrap import was registered at 0.08 MnT in Nov'19 increase by 14.28% as against 0.07 MnT in previous month. However on yearly basis import plunged by 42.85% in Nov'19 against 0.14 MnT in Nov'18.

Finish Long Steel- On a monthly basis country's import of finished long steel is registered at 0.09 MnT in Nov'19, down by 10% as against 0.1 MnT in Oct'19. Whereas on yearly premise, imports remained stable in Nov'19 against 0.09 MnT in same month of previous year.

In Nov'19, Japan and Malaysia both stood as top exporter of finished long steel to Thailand and registered at 0.02 MnT down by 33.33% as compared to 0.03 MnT in Oct'19 followed by China 0.01 MnT in Nov'19 (-50%) as against 0.02 MnT in Oct'19.

Finish Flat Steel- Thailand's finish flat steel imports declined by 17.5% to 0.66 MnT in Nov'19 than the 0.8 MnT in Oct'19. Also on yearly premises, import down by 15.38% in Nov'19 as against 0.78 MnT in Nov'18.

Graphite Electrode- On a monthly basis country's import of Graphite electrode is registered at 508 MT in Nov'19 surged by 23% against 413 MT in Oct'19, whereas on yearly basis import declined by 57.4% in Nov'19 as against 1,193 MT in Nov'18.
