Taiwan: Flat Steel Exports Move Up in CY18

According to latest customs data released,Taiwan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) registered an increase of 5% in CY'18. Nation has exported 9.54 MnT of flat steel in CY18 as compared to 9.10 MnT in CY17.
Nation has majorly exported flat steel to Vietnam and China in CY18. As Vietnam based steelmakers majorly import HRC in large quantities from Taiwan amid competitive offers compared to other nations.
However as per market reports, Taiwan steel exports may decline in CY19 over imposition of various trade barriers like USA tariffs of 25% on steel products and safeguard measures by European Commission.
On monthly basis flat steel exports from Taiwan surged by 16% to 0.81 MnT in Dec'18 in comparison to 0.7 MnT in Nov'18.
Whereas on year-on-year basis nation's flat steel exports registered a rise of 4% in Dec'18 against 0.78 MnT in Dec'17.

Country-wise Taiwan Flat Steel Exports in CY'18- Vietnam being the major importer of flat steel from Taiwan accounted for 14% of share and stood at 1.29 MnT in CY'18.
Second major importing nation is China at 1.18 MnT occupied the share of 12% in CY'18.
Followed this other importing nation include Japan at 0.94 MnT, occupied the share of 10% in CY18.
Other major importing nations include Malaysia (9%) at 0.82 MnT, United States (8%) at 0.76 MnT and Spain (5%) at 0.45 MnT in CY'18.
