SteelMint: PELLEX falls further by INR 100/t on limited trades

SteelMint's bi-weekly domestic pellet index "PELLEX" decreased around INR 100/t today (22nd Sept'20) to INR 8,800/t DAP Raipur due to limited trades being reported.

Major pellet buyers are less interested to buy pellet at quoted offers and are watching the market more closely amid lockdown imposed in the Raipur city w.e.f today. Raw material shortage continues to remain a major concern as domestic prices continue to remain on higher side.

Pellet sponge prices moved down around INR 300/t in today's trade and assessed at INR 19,100/t exw-Raipur. On weekly basis, prices have down by INR 100/t against INR 19,200/t a week before.

• Single deal has been reported for 1,000 t at INR at INR 8,850/t (DAP, Raipur) and that was not considered for price calculation due to less amount. Transaction weightage remained nil in this publishing window.
  
  
• Four firm offers were reported this week at INR 8,950/t (DAP, Raipur) and the rest three from outside Raipur at INR 9,050-9,100/t (DAP, Raipur) which have been given a weightage of 50%.
  
  
• Two firm bids have been reported but only one bid taken for price calculation at INR 8,650/t DAP, Raipur in this publishing window, and given a weightage of 50%.
  
  
• SteelMint calculated the price at which Raipur pellet can displace NMDC lump in the sponge rotary kiln feed (substitute parity) on a DAP Raipur basis at INR 7,400/t and given a weightage of 0%.
  
  
• The export realization factor has not been considered as pellet makers are less active in exports owing to an increased domestic realization and heated discussions on illegal pellet exports from India.
