SteelMint's weekly Odisha iron ore fines (Fe 62%) index increased by INR 300/t to INR 5,350/t (ex-mines, including royalty, DMF and NMET) owing to tight material availability due to the monsoons and scant availability of high-grade iron ore.

SAIL conducted an auction on 6 Oct for 60,000 t of iron ore fines from its Bolani mines in Odisha. Of the total quantity, bids were received for 32,000 t offered at around INR 5,500/t (loaded, including royalty, DMF and NMET), according to sources.

A majority of miners continued to hold on the same offer. However, as per sources one miner is likely to resume offers next week.

Rationale:

  • One lone deals was recorded this week from SAIL mentioned above and therefore considered as T1 trade and given 50% weightage in the index calculation for Fe 62% fines.

  • SteelMint received twelve (12) offers, indicative prices under T2 trade in this publishing window. All were taken into consideration and given 50% weightage. To check out SteelMint's iron ore assessments, pricing methodology and specification documents Click here

In another deal, a trader from Odisha concluded around 25,000 t of lump (5-18mm, Fe 62%) deal at INR 9,500/t (ex-mines, including royalty, DMF and NMET) this week.
