SteelMint's domestic scrap index remained almost stable as the market fluctuated in the range of INR 200/tonne (t) on 30 January. Meanwhile, end-user demand for steel continued to remain limited. End-cutting scrap prices were recorded at INR 43,600/t DAP Mandi Gobindgarh on 30 January, 2023.
In some key markets today sponge iron prices dropped in the range of INR 50-200/t. While prices in the north and east remained comparatively lower, prices in the south increased by INR 200-250/t. About 22,080 t of sponge iron deals were recorded on 30 January in India as against 13,350 t on 28 January.
SteelMint's billet index declined to INR 47,250/tonne (t) (- INR 100/t) exw-Raipur on 30 January, 2023. Billets prices decreased amid falling prices and moderate booking. There was decent movement in semi-finished and finished steel. Transactions of 1,700 t were recorded on 30 January in Raipur as against 450 t as reported on 28 January.
