Sponge iron prices in India fell by INR 50-450/tonne (t) in some key locations on account of limited trade as buyers were engaged only in need-based procurement to fulfil their immediate requirements. About 6,880 tonnes (t) of sponge iron transactions were recorded on 18 May in India as against 10,050 t on 17 May.

SteelMint's billet index fell by INR 350/t to INR 44,800/tonne (t) exw-Raipur on May 18, 2023. The index fell due to lower bids and limited buying as buyers resisted booking material at higher offers. Around 2,300 t of trade was recorded on 18 May in Raipur as against 3,300 t on 17 May.

SteelMint's weekly India low-grade iron ore fines (Fe 57%) export index increased by $5/t w-o-w to $65/tonne (t) FOB east coast on 18 May, 2023.
