Spot billet and wire rod prices in central India surged towards the weekend on trades at higher offers.

The Union Ministry of Coal has reassured that ample domestic supplies are available to meet the demand of power plants. Any fear of disruption in power supply is entirely misplaced, the Ministry has assured. Coal stocks at power plants are about 7.2 mn t, sufficient for four days' usage, and stocks with Coal India Limited (CIL) are more than 40 mn t, which is being supplied to power plants.
