Spain Steel Imports in Q1 CY'19

Spain Iron Ore Imports Up 7% in Q1 CY'19- Spain iron ore imports picked up in Q1 CY'19 to 1.63 MnT, up 7% as against 1.52 MnT in Q4 CY'18.

For the month of Mar'19, total Spain's import reached 0.58 MnT, down 13% against 0.67 MnT in Feb'19.

Brazil remained the major exporter of Spain as it contributed major part of exports which stood at 0.27 MnT in Mar'19. However amid Vale dam burst mishap in Jan and hindrance in exports caused due to Tropical cyclone leads to significant fall in Spain import volumes from Brazil in Mar'18. Although Canada exported remaining 0.31 MnT to Spain for the month.

On yearly basis, imports plunged 19% in Mar'19 as compared to 0.72 MnT in Mar'18.

Country-wise Spain iron ore imports in Q1 CY'19- Major share of Spain's import came from Brazil for Q1 CY'19 and recorded at 0.95 MnT, up 12% against 0.85 MnT.

Remaining of the imports volume was accounted by Canada at 0.68 MnT in Q1 CY'19.

Spain Scrap imports remain stable in Q1 CY'19- Spain imported 0.98 MnT of ferrous scrap in Q1 CY'19, remains unchanged over Q4 CY'18.

Scrap imports to Spain reached a 42 month high in Mar'19 and registered 48% spike M-o-M, as the country imported 0.4 MnT in Mar'19 which was 0.27 MnT in Feb'19.

Prior to this the highest monthly scrap imports were witnessed in Oct'15 when the country had imported 0.46 MnT of ferrous scrap.

On yearly premise nation's scrap imports upsurged by 38% in Mar'19 over 0.29 MnT in Mar'18.

Country-wise Spain scrap imports in Q1 CY'19- France remained the largest ferrous scrap supplier to Spain and supplied 0.49 MnT in Q1 CY'19, increased by 7% against 0.46 MnT in Q4 CY'18.

Nations second major import came from UK accounting for 0.17 MnT, followed by Portugal which supplied 0.10 MnT in Q1 CY'19.

Meanwhile Spain also imported ferrous scrap from Ireland, Germany, Luxembourg, Russia and Turkey in smaller quantities in Q1 CY'19.

Spain finish long imports decline by 10% in Q1 CY'19- Nation's finish long imports in Q1 CY'19 was recorded at 0.27 MnT, slashed by 10% as against 0.3 MnT in previous quarter.

On monthly premise the same moved up by 11% and stood at 0.1 MnT in Mar'19 which was 0.09 MnT in Feb'19.

Meanwhile nation's finish long imports registered a fall of 9% in Mar'19 in comparison to 0.11 MnT in the Mar'18.

Country-wise Spain finish long imports in Q1 CY'19- Portugal being the major supplier of finish long steel to Spain accounted for 0.13 MnT in Q1 CY'19 down by 7% in comparison to 0.14 MnT in previous quarter.

Second major exporter to Spain was Italy with 0.04 MnT, followed by France, Germany and Turkey with 0.02 MnT each in Q1 CY'19.

Meanwhile Spain also imported finish long steel from Turkey, United Kingdom, Egypt and Luxembourg in smaller quantities in Q1 CY'19.

Spain flat steel imports inch down by 1% in Q1 CY'19- Inching down by 1% in Q1 CY'19 Spain's flat steel imports reported at 1.83 MnT which was 1.85 in previous quarter.

Demand for imported steel in Spain remain subdued amid seasonal disruption in steel demand ahead of approaching summer season.

Increased offers for imported flat steel amid higher raw material costs results to softening market sentiments as end users are unwilling to accept high offers. Thus above sentiments collectively led to a decline in imports to Spain.

Nation imported flat steel at 0.7 MnT in Mar'19; registered a surge by 30% over 0.54 MnT procured in preceding month.

Whereas on yearly premise nation's imports increased by 13% in Mar'19 as compared to 0.62 MnT in corresponding month of previous year.

Country-wise Spain flat steel imports in Q1 CY'19- Nation imports majorly from France and accounted for 0.32 MnT in Q1 CY'19 declined by 7% in comparison to 0.3 MnT in previous quarter.

Second major exporter was Turkey at 0.3 MnT followed by Germany and Italy at 0.2 MnT each in Q1 CY'19.

Following this Spain also imported flat steel from Portugal at 0.10 MnT, India at 0.09 MnT and China at 0.09 MnT in Q1 CY'19.
