South Korea's HDGI exports up 23% y-o-y in Sept'21

South Korea's hot-dipped galvanised steel sheet (HDGI) export volumes rose in Sept'21 after remaining impacted by Covid in H1CY'21, SteelDaily reported.

Export volumes of HDGI products stood at around 288,570 tonnes (t) in Sept'21, up 22.5% y-o-y.

Exports to Indonesia stood at 2,991 t (up 97.2%). Around 1,055 t were exported to the Middle-East (up 45.7%), 5,734 t to North America (up 167.2%) and 1,061 t to Oceania (up 80%).

Other export destinations were East Asia, Southwest Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa. Export volumes to these regions decreased on a y-o-y basis.

Meanwhile, domestic sales decreased 25.1% y-o-y to 359,934 t in Sept'21.

GI production

According to the Korean Steel Association, domestic GI production stood at 655,973 t in Sept'21, an increase of 2.9% from the corresponding period last year (CPLY).

Production volumes in Q3CY'21 continued the smooth flow by increasing 5.7% as compared to same period last year. However, sales went down 9.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, totalling 648,504 t.

GI production, sales increase in Jan-Sept'21

GI production in South Korea increased 6.1% to 5.72 million tonnes (mn t) in Jan-Sept'21 compared to CPLY. Sales volume jumped 5.5% to 5.68 mn t in the same period.

• Domestic sales accounted for 3.49 mn t of total sales, up 2.9% y-o-y.
