As per the data compiled and maintained by SteelMint, South Korea's exports of finished long and finished flat steel products showed an increase on the month in Jul '20, however, there was a decline in exports of semi-finished and ferro-alloys.
Semi-finished steel exports witnessed a 12% decline to 79,211 t in Jul '20 from 90,482 t a month ago, while on an annual basis it rose a massively in contrast with 26,416 t in Jul '19.
During the seven months (Jan-Jul) CY '20 the aggregated export volumes stood at 490,181 t, significantly up from 224,310 t in the corresponding months of CY '19.
Finished long steel export volumes increased by 28% on the month to 186,652 t in Jul '20 when compared with 146,057 t a month ago. However, fell by 14% on a yearly basis against 216,812 t in Jul '19.
During the seven months (Jan-Jul) CY '20 the export volumes summed up to 1,290,748 t, down by 9% as against 1,417,567 t in the similar time frame of CY '19.
Finished flat steel export volumes climbed up 6% to stand at 2,071,636 t in Jul '20 as compared with 1,959,241 t in Jun '20, and increased by 2% y-o-y against 2,035,662 t in Jul '19.
The country's steel manufacturers actively exported HRC during the month to Vietnam at competitive prices. The volumes stood at 160,939 t in Jul '20, significantly up by 58% in contrast with 101,726 t a month ago.
On a country-wise note, in Jul '20, the exports to China declined by a marginal 1% to 523,732 t as against 531,707 t in Jun '20. Exports of Japan were up by 28% to 199,904 t in Jul '20 over 156,248 t a month back. Other major export market included Thailand at 136,675 t and Mexico at 122,225 t in Jul '20.
During the seven months (Jan-Jul) CY '20 the export volumes stood at 13,154,057 t, down by 7% from 14,160,596 t in Jan-Jul CY '19.
Ferro alloys exports declined on all three fronts. On a monthly basis, in Jul '20, the volume stood at 7,818 t, declining by 12% over 8,839 t in the preceding month. On the year, the volumes were halved in contrast with 15,785 t in Jul '19.
During the seven months (Jan-Jul) CY '20 the aggregated export volumes stood at 88,145 t, significantly down from 111,328 t in the corresponding months of CY '19.
