SteelDaily: South Korea's major ports saw a rise in fresh scrap arrivals this week, with the total volume reaching 71,510 tonnes (t). This represents an increase of approximately 11,680 t, or 20%, compared to the previous week.
Company-wise arrivals
- Hyundai Steel's fresh scrap arrivals totalled 23,480 t, distributed across several ports: 3,000 t at Incheon, 14,980 t at Dangjin, and 5,500 t at Pohang. This reflects a substantial increase of around 17,000 t compared to the previous week.
- Dongkuk Steel saw a decrease in fresh scrap imports, with only 2,000 t arriving at Incheon, down by 2,500 t from the previous week.
- SeAH Besteel reported 13,200 t of sheet special steel imports at Gunsan port.
- Masan port remained stable with 18,300 t of Russian goods for Korea Special Steel, the same as last week. Additionally, 2,000 t of Daehan Steel products arrived in Busan.
- POSCO reported total import volumes of 20,000 t, including 8,500 t at the Pohang facility and 11,500 t at Gwangyang, reflecting an increase in import activity.
Overall, imports saw a notable increase, driven by rising demand from steel producers. Hyundai Steel's import volume surged significantly over the past week, pushing its market share up to 33%. However, special steel plate companies maintained a dominant position with a commanding 46% share, nearly achieving a majority.
