South Korea: Major ports record nearly 50,000 t of new scrap arrivals in early Oct'24

SteelDaily: South Korea's major ports confirmed that, by 2 October 2024, 48,500 tonnes (t) of steel scrap had arrived and were set to be unloaded.

Company-wise arrivals

  • Hyundai Steel completed all its port arrivals last week, so no new volumes were reported in early October.

  • Dongkuk Steel reported that 12,500 t of steel scrap arrived at Incheon. Additionally, Masan reported total shipments of 16,000 t.

  • SeAH Besteel reported 11,000 t of sheet special steel imports at Gunsan Port.

  • Daehan Steel reported that 2,500 t of steel scrap arrived in Busan.

  • POSCO reported total import volumes of 1,500 t, and Gwangyang reported 5,000 t.

Overall, the share of imports from special steel plate companies was confirmed to be around 36.1%, the lowest since early September.
