South Korea: Colour steel sheet exports, imports rise in Aug'21

South Korea's import volumes of colour steel sheets were recorded at 43,387 tonnes (t) in Aug'21, increasing significantly by 122% compared with the same period last year, as per data from the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA).

Notably, imports from China, stood at above 40,000 t levels for the third consecutive month in Aug'21, as per Steel Daily. Import volumes stood at 45,332 t in June, and 47,222 t in July and 43,161 t in Aug.

Exports

The export volumes of colour steel sheets moved up by 13.6% y-o-y to 116,771 t in Aug.

Improved demand from countries having a higher concentration of home appliances manufacturers boosted the exports volumes.

• Exports to China stood at 3,373 t, up 12.6% y-o-y.
  
  
• Shipments to Europe moved up by 15.4% y-o-y to 33,558 t in Aug.
  
  
• Export volumes to Latin America surged 47% y-o-y to 26,207 t in Aug.
  
  
• Volumes shipped to Turkey and North America stood at 1,720 t and 22,229 t respectively.
  
  

Furthermore, the cumulative exports of colour steel sheets during the eight months (Jan-Aug) CY'21 was recorded at 877,516 t, up 19% on an annual basis, while the import volumes went up by a significant 67% to 295,117 t.
