Ship-breaking import prices in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan remained unchanged, w-o-w.
Indian buyers resume bookings
A few deals were reported last week from Alang recyclers. Several other stainless-steel tankers and specialist units are also slated for Alang delivery in the coming few weeks. Meanwhile, steel plate prices were also stable w-o-w.
Deals
- A LPG, Apoda, of 9,835 LDT, was concluded at $550/LDT.
- Total tonnage at Alang Port last week amounted to 54,470 light displacement tonnage (LDT), up by 90% w-o-w.
Demand from Bangladesh buyers firm
Bangladesh was the leading subcontinental market, in terms of prices. According to sources, demand from Chattogram recyclers has strenthened. However, they missed out a few vessels to Pakistan.
Deals
- Total tonnage reported last week at Chattogram Port was 178,041 LDT, up by 22% w-o-w.
Pakistan market rebounds
Pakistan has almost recovered from the currency depreciation which they had witnessed throughout CY'21.
Last week, Pakistan took away a vessel from Bangladeshi hands which was more suitably positioned for a Chattogram delivery.
Deals
- A tanker, Garin, of 9,559 LDT, was concluded at $576/LDT.
- Total tonnage at Gadani Port last week was reported at 53,390 LDT, up by 36% w-o-w.
Outlook
Overall, the sentiments remain positive but the surge in Covid-19 cases has restricted trade and vessel movements in South Asia.
