South Asia: Imported scrap prices continue to rise in recent deals

South Asian buyers remained active in booking containerised imported scrap even as prices picked up further. Offers for all key countries have seen a further hike today on active demand and supportive price sentiments from Turkey.

Currency exchange

  • Around 3,000-4,000 tonnes (t) of shredded scrap was booked at $435-440/t CFR, Qasim basis. SteelMint's assessment of UK-origin shredded scrap stands at $438/t CFR Qasim, a slight increase of $8/t against yesterday.

  • As per SteelMint's assessment, current price of HMS 1 stands at $455-460/t CFR Nhava Sheva, up marginally against yesterday.

  • SteelMint's assessment for UK-origin shredded scrap stands at $465/t CFR Bangladesh, up by $7/t d-o-d.
