South Asia: Containarised imported scrap trade yet to improve

South Asia's containerised imported scrap market is yet to gain momentum. Post-Eid holidays, one bulk cargo has been booked in Bangladesh from Australia/ New Zealand. Buyers are yet to resume containerised material bookings after the power cuts and LC restrictions.

Furthermore, Indian and Pakistani trade remain silent due to instability in international prices and currency devaluations.

  • Around 2,000 tonnes of Europe-origin HMS was traded at $455/t, CFR Qasim. SteelMint's assessment of UK-origin shredded scrap stands at $460-465/t CFR Qasim, down by $7/t against yesterday's price.

  • Shredded scrap prices into India stood at $470-480/t CFR Nhava Sheva, unchanged d-o-d.

  • SteelMint's assessment of UK-origin shredded scrap stands at $485-490/t CFR Chittagong, dropping significantly by $15-20/t d-o-d.
