South Africa: Iron Ore Export Shipments Up 5% in Jan'20

As per bulk vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint, South African iron ore export shipments in Jan'20 witnessed 5% up to 6.33 MnT, against 6.04 MnT in Dec'19.
Export shipments to China dropped for the month-: South Africa's total iron ore export shipments to China for the month of Jan'20 recorded 32% fall to 3.02 MnT as compared to 4.43 MnT in Dec'19. The exports dropped to China amid increased production curbs, reduced demand and lunar New Year holidays started from 24th Jan.
Exports to Japan recorded at 0.55 MnT, up sharply by 79% against 0.31 MnT in Dec'19. Exports to Netherland stood at 0.36 MnT followed by Germany at 0.26 MnT and Korea at 0.20 MnT.
South African export shipments to India dropped to nil in Jan'20-: South African iron ore exports to India dropped to nil in Jan'20. The exports dropped against 0.15 MnT in Dec'19.
Indian imports of lumps remained on the lower side for the year amid high prices of lumps in the global market, discrepancies at Saldanha port and availability of domestic pellets from Jindal SAW at comparatively less expensive prices.
The Indian imports for the four consecutive months from July'19 to Oct'19 remained nil amid price hike which touched as high as USD 140/MT, CNF Kandla towards July 19.
