South Africa Iron Ore Export Shipments Fall 8% in Mar'20

South African iron ore export shipments in Mar'20 witnessed 8% drop to 5 MnT, against 5.47 MnT in Feb' 20, according to bulk vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint,

The President of the Republic of South Africa on 23 March declared a 21-day nationwide lockdown that took effect at midnight on Thursday 26 March, in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa. As a consequence of lockdown, no vessel of iron ore was observed at berthing position at Saldanha bayfrom 27th March. Two vessels were seen at inner anchorage of Saldanha port and nine vessels were at anchorage at St Helena Bay point.

South African export shipments to China fell 48% in Mar'20
South Africa's total iron ore export to China for the month of Mar'20 recorded at 2.18 MnT, down 48% as compared to 4.21 MnT in Feb'20.

Exports to Korea were recorded at 0.29 MnT, down by 22% against 0.37 MnT in Feb '20. Exports to Japan stood at 0.25 MnT followed by Netherland at 0.20 MnT.

South African export shipments to India rebounded for the month
The total iron ore exports to India rebounded for the month to 0.11 MnT after being nil for two consecutive months Jan- Feb'20.
