South Africa: Ferrous Scrap Exports Increase 28% in Nov'17

South African ferrous scrap exports remained concentrated to Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India again in Nov'17.

As per recently released customs data, South Africa has witnessed rise by 28% M-o-M in ferrous scrap exports in Nov'17. The country exported 47,965 MT ferrous scrap in Nov'17 while South Africa's exports were at 37,488 MT in Oct'17.

On Y-o-Y basis ferrous scrap exports witnessed a fall of 22% in Nov'17 as ferrous scrap exports were 61,227 MT in Nov'16 from South Africa.

During eleven months of CY17, ferrous scrap exports from South Africa summed up to 425,098 MT, down 29% against 597,501 MT exports during the same period in CY16.

Majority of the scrap exports made from South Africa have been done through major ports like Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Bangladesh emerged as largest importer of South African ferrous scrap in Nov'17 -

In Nov'17, Bangladesh emerged as the largest importer with 16,749 MT ferrous scrap imports from South Africa. However, Pakistan imported 15,814 MT ferrous scrap in Nov'17 which is more than double on M-o-M against 7,081 MT imports in Oct'17. India imported 9,482 MT ferrous scrap in Nov'17 from South Africa.

Pakistan continued to remain the largest importer of South African ferrous scrap so far in CY17 with 153,125 MT imports during Jan-Nov'17. However, India imported 134,439 MT ferrous scrap during the same period. Pakistan and India occupied 36% & 32% shares of total ferrous scrap exports from South Africa respectively.

During Jan-Nov'17, India's ferrous scrap imports from South Africa fell to half while Bangladesh almost doubled against same time frame of last year.
