South Africa: Ferro alloys exports show mixed trends m-o-m in Oct'23

Manganese ore exports down by 29%

• South Africa's manganese ore exports decreased by 29% in Oct'23 to 1.56 mnt which was 2.21 mnt in Sep'23.
  
  
• The leading importers were China (0.88 mnt) followed by India (0.41 mnt) in Oct'23.
  
  
• Meanwhile, the imports stayed up y-o-y by 7.4% to 18.95 mnt in Oct'23 as against 17.65 mnt in Sep'23.
  
  

Chromite exports increase m-o-m 5%

• South Africa's chromite exports rose by 5% m-o-m in Oct'23 to 2.06 mnt which was 1.97 mnt in Sep'23.
  
  
• Chrome ore exports m-o-m saw an uptick by 5% y-o-y in Oct'23 to 1.76 mnt as against 1.69 mnt in Sep'23.
  
  
• Meanwhile, ferro chrome exports m-o-m improved by 5% in Oct'23 to 0.29 mnt when compared to 0.28 mnt in Sep'23.
  
  

Manganese alloys exports decline m-o-m 19%

• Manganese alloys exports in South Africa decreased by 19% m-o-m in Oct'23 to 8,795 t as against 10,832 t in Sep'23.
  
  
• Silico manganese exports diminished by 73% m-o-m in Oct'23 to 2,146 t which was 7,920 t in Sep'23.
  
  
• However, ferro manganese imports witnessed an upsurge in exports that stood at 6,649 t in Oct'23 compared to 2,912 t in Sep'23.
