South Africa: Ferro alloys export shipments rise y-o-y in CY'23

Manganese ore exports up 7% y-o-y in CY'23

• South Africa's manganese ore exports increased by 7% in CY'23 to 22.13 mnt which was 20.74 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• The leading importers were China (14.16 mnt) followed by India (3.09 mnt) in CY'23.
  
  
• However, imports m-o-m declined by 21% to 1.40 mnt in December 2023 as against 1.78 mnt in November 2023.
  
  

Chromite exports increase 25% y-o-y in CY'23

• South Africa's chromite exports rose by 25% y-o-y in CY'23 to 21.83 mnt which was 17.52 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• Chrome ore exports y-o-y saw an uptick of 26% in CY'23 to 17.79 mnt as against 14.08 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• Meanwhile, ferro chrome exports improved 18% y-o-y in CY'23 to 4.04 mnt compared to 3.44 mnt in CY'22.
  
  

Manganese alloys exports up y-o-y

• Manganese alloys exports by South Africa climbed 91% y-o-y in CY'23 to 0.46 mnt as against 0.24 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• Silico manganese exports fell by 33% y-o-y in CY'23 to 0.09 mnt which was 0.13 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• However, ferro manganese shipments witnessed an upsurge at 0.38 mnt in CY'23 compared to 0.11 mnt in CY'22.
