South Africa: Ferro Alloy Exports Down by 1% M-o-M in Aug'17

According to the South African customs, the country has witnessed a mere decrease of 1% M-o-M in its Ferro Alloy exports.
In Aug'17, South Africa exported a total of 2.72 MnT Ferro Alloys, Manganese Ore and Chrome Ore against 2.74 MnT in Jul'17. However, on yearly basis, there has been a substantial increase of 34% Y-o-Y in its export volume which stood at 2.03 MnT in Aug'16.
Manganese Ore occupied the major volume of South African exports at 1.12 MnT in Aug'17, registering a substantial fall of 25% M-o-M. However, Ferro Chrome exports witnessed a significant increase of 28% M-o-M in Aug'17. Production of Ferro Chrome increased in South Africa, as the country comes out of the winter months of high energy costs. While, Chrome Ore exports stood at 1.23 MnT in Aug'17, witnessing an increase of 29% M-o-M against Jul'17. Silico Manganese export by South Africa remained flat at 0.01 MT in Aug'17, similar to that in Jul'17.
China remains the largest importer of South African Ferro Alloys and Ores at 1.46 MnT in Aug'17, recording an increase of 13% against 1.29 MnT in Jul'17. In Aug'17, Mozambique was the second largest importer of South African Ferroalloys (including Manganese Ore and Chrome Ore) at 0.40 MnT while India, being the third largest importer, imported 0.20 MnT.
