Russia's steel production increases 6% y-o-y in 2023

Steel production at Russian steel mills in 2023 increased by 6% on year to 73.9 million tonnes, the rating agency Rusmet reported.

Growth is observed at MMK (+16%), PromSort-Ural (+4%), NLMK (+12%), Abinsk Plant (+7%), Tagmet (+4%) and Amurmetal (+30%), while decreases are seen at Balakovo (-9%) and EVRAZ West-Siberian Metal Plant (-7%).

In the reporting period, rail shipments of scrap to Russian steel mills increased by 5% to 14.1 million tonnes compared to 2022.

A notable decrease in rail shipments was observed at Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant (-13%), NLMK (-9%), Volzhsky (-16%), and EVRAZ West-Siberian Metal Plant (-38%).

Growth is observed at MMK (+64%), PromSortKaluga (+11%), Bryansk Machine-Building Plant (+47%), and Abinsk Abinsk Electric Steel Works (+57%).
