Russia's coal output falls 6% y-o-y in Aug'24

Mysteel Global: Russia produced about 32 million tonnes (mnt) of coal in August 2024, largely stable m-o-m but lower by 6.2% y-o-y, according to data released by Rosstat, Russia's Federal State Statistics Service. The total monthly production has remained almost unchanged in the past three months.

Additionally, the country's coking coal output increased by 3.5% m-o-m and 9.8% y-o-y to 9 mnt in August, the data showed.

Russia produced about 7.2 mnt of lignite last month, up by 9.1%, both m-o-m and y-o-y.

The country's anthracite output decreased by 21.1% y-o-y to 1.5 mnt but was largely unchanged m-o-m.

Russia's production of other hard coal, excluding coking coal and anthracite, decreased by 20.7% y-o-y to 13.8 mnt. The production was also lower by 9.2% m-o-m from the volume recorded in July, the Rosstat data showed.

In the first eight months of this year, Russia produced a total of 275 mnt of all types of coal, down by 1.8% y-o-y from the same period last year.
