In the recent International Forum Non-Ferrous Metals held in Moscow, the Russia Aluminium Association presented crucial insights into the country's aluminium market and its growth prospects. As one of the world's second-largest aluminium producer, Russia currently produces 4 mnt (million tonnes) annually, with 1 mnt consumed domestically. However, the association aspires to boost domestic consumption to 1.5 mnt by 2030, emphasizing the need for advancing high-tech industries reliant on aluminium across various sectors.
The strategic agenda involves collaborative efforts with partners to implement diverse projects fostering aluminium consumption in sectors such as automotive, construction, energy, and engineering.
Initiatives include localising the production of casted car components, manufacturing aluminium wheels, promoting road infrastructure development, and producing a range of aluminium consumer goods.
A noteworthy focus lies on enhancing road infrastructure, with 63 bridges underway in Russia, featuring innovative projects like bridges, structures over railway crossings, and the nation's inaugural aluminium road bridge set to conclude this year. Such projects not only underscore Russia's commitment to technological advancements but also demonstrate a strategic drive towards sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
Crucially, the Aluminium Association's action plan, partnered by the Russian Government, unfolds a roadmap to stimulate demand for aluminium products by 2025, with a forward-looking vision reaching into 2030. This initiative aims to galvanize the market through strategic interventions, encouraging industries to involve aluminium in their operations.
