Russia: Ferrous Scrap Exports Shrink 15% in Nov'17

As per recent customs data, Russia exported 0.39 MnT ferrous scrap in November month. Russia's ferrous scrap exports declined by 15% M-o-M in Nov'17 as exports were at 0.46 MnT in Oct'17.On yearly premises, Russia's ferrous scrap exports witnessed fall of 13% Y-o-Y as exports were noted at 0.45 MnT in Nov'16.
Russia is world's fourth largest ferrous scrap exporter after EU, USA and Japan. Russia exported 5.32 MnT ferrous scrap in CY16.Notably, the country witnessed second consecutive fall in scrap exports in Nov'17.The fall in exports could be attributed to sharply hiked prices and reduced scrap demand amid winters.
During Jan-Nov'17, Russian ferrous scrap exports summed up at 4.44 MnT, declined by 8% against 4.80 MnT ferrous scrap exports during the same period in CY16.
Major scrap loading ports in Russia are North-West Federal district, Far East Federal district, Central Federal district and Southern Federal district.
Turkey remained the top destination for Russian ferrous scrap -
In Nov'17, Turkey's share was highest and almost half in Russian ferrous scrap exports at 0.19 MnT followed by South Korea (0.10 MnT) and Belarus (0.06 MnT) respectively. Other major importers of Russian ferrous scrap were Egypt and Spain with each 0.01 MnT ferrous scrap imports in Oct'17.
During Jan-Nov'17, out of total 4.44 MnT Russian ferrous scrap exports, Turkey imported almost 2 MnT occupying the highest share of 45% followed by Belarus (1.03 MnT), South Korea (0.91 MnT), Spain (0.22 MnT) and Egypt (0.06 MnT) respectively. Belarus registered 20% growth while Spain witnessed 45% fall in its ferrous scrap imports against ferrous scrap imports in the same time frame during last year from Russia.
