India: Odisha Iron Ore Production Up 6% During Apr-Dec'18

Odisha - India's largest iron ore producing state has recorded Dec'18 production at 10.48 MnT, up 9% as compared to Dec'17 production at 9.59 MnT, according to the provisional data of Odisha Govt. maintained by SteelMint. The figures include the type of material - fine, lump, and concentrate.

On monthly basis, Dec'18 production increased marginally as against Nov'18 production at 10.4 MnT.

During FY'19 (Apr-Dec'18) Odisha iron ore production has increased by 6% to 77.92 MnT as against 73.35 MnT in the same period last fiscal FY'18.

Odisha based merchant miners have reduced iron ore prices further in Dec'18. SteelMint also heard that miners have discounts on bulk quantity purchase over announced listed offers. Odisha merchant miners are looking at scaling up their iron ore production in order to utilize their remaining Environmental Clearance (EC) approved before 2020 lease expire. Therefore, miners may explore the export opportunity to de-stock their ore.

Rungta Mines - India's largest private merchant miner produced 2.08 MnT iron ore from its mines in Odisha in Dec'18, down 5% M-o-M as against 2.2 MnT in Nov'18.

Tata iron ore production stood at 1.19 MnT (Up 3%) and SAIL at 0.7 MnT (down 17% on monthly basis).

Iron ore production of state-owned miner- OMC rise by10% at 1.03 MnT for the month as against 0.94 MnT in Nov'18.

Serajuddin production has gone up by 9% to 0.86 MnT in Dec'18 as against 0.79MnT in Nov'18. Serajuddin mine has been started operations from its pit which was closed for quite some time.

Essel Mining and Industries has also recorded increase in production sharply by 67% to 1 MnT for the month as against 0.6 MnT in Nov'18.
