Nepal: Flat Steel Import Jumps 38% in CY18

According to latest customs data released, Nepal's flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) reported a climb of 38% in CY 18 to 0.69 MnT as compared to 0.50 MnT in CY17. Major Indian steelmakers have actively exported Hot Rolled coils to Nepal in CY18 which pushed up total export volumes
On monthly basis country's flat steel exports plunged by 33% in Dec'18 to 0.04 MnT against 0.06 MnT in Nov'18. Thus Indian HRC bookings for Nepal witnessed a decline since last month amid liquidity issues due to which fresh requirements were not coming up. Also delayed dispatch of previous bookings were also a matter of concern.
Also on yearly basis the same reported a decline of 20% in Dec'18 against 0.05 MnT in Dec'17.

India turns out to be the major flat steel exporter of Nepal in CY18- India remained a major flat steel exporter to Nepal in CY 18.India exported 0.58 MnT of flat steel in CY18 as compared to 0.45 MnT in previous year. India occupies the share of 87% in total flat steel exports to Nepal.
Second major exporter was China's which stood at 0.05 MnT in CY18 against 0.03 MnT of CY17.
Followed by other countries like Ukraine and Taiwan exported HRC to Nepal in small quantities.
