China: MIIT to set standards on intelligent manufacturing in steel sector

In order to promote the high-quality development of the country's steel industry, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on May 23 issued a draft guideline on building a standards system for intelligent manufacturing in the steel sector to solicit public opinions, Mysteel Global has learned.

The Guideline for the Construction of Intelligent manufacturing Standards System in the Steel Industry (for comments) is open for public comments over May 23-June 23, MIIT noted.

Its major goal is to establish a comprehensive standards system to guide the intelligent manufacturing of China's steel industry, and to formulate at least 45 industrial standards for the sector by 2025, Mysteel Global learned.

Specifically, the standards system will be built at six levels, basically covering all aspects of the steel sector, and the top priority will be standards for foundational and general purpose, and those for key application scenarios such as green and low-carbon development, product quality and production safety.

Back in mid-November 2021, MIIT and China's Standardization Administration jointly released the Guidelines for the Construction of National Intelligent Manufacturing Standards System (2021 edition), aiming at formulating and revising more than 100 national standards and industry standards by 2023, and gradually building a smart manufacturing standards system by 2025.

The 2021 guidelines also listed standards requirements for the steel sector that has complex techniques and processes and generates diverse intermediates, with a focus on intelligent technologies and management in production scenarios, as well as the construction of smart factories.
