Met Coke Imports Up 112.5% in India in Oct'17 M-o-M

Met Coke imports in India in Oct'17 were up by 112.5% in comparison with the imports in the previous month, an analysis of the import data compiled by CoalMint Research shows.
During Oct'17, around 0.51 MnT of Met Coke was imported in the country; and that was higher than the imports of 0.24 MnT in Sep'17.

On a year-on-year comparison, the imports in Oct'17 were, however, lower by around 8.93% than the imports of around 0.56 MnT in the same month of the previous year.
A break-up of the countries of imports shows that imports from China were lower during the month as the prices were considerably higher.

Among the various ports in India, the Hazira port had handled the highest volume of import traffic during the month under review; followed by the Krishnapatnam and Paradip ports.

The major importers during the month were: Essar, Balasore Alloys, Atibir Industries, Visa Steel, JSW Steel, Neo Metaliks, Tata Steel, among others.
Met Coke offers from China--the key global market--have started falling as Coking Coal prices were coming down. Indian buyers have thus adopted a wait-and-watch mode before resuming active purchases. In view of this, imports in the succeeding month in India are not likely to escalate significantly.
