Major Iranian steel producers increased DRI output by 11% y-o-y at 5.55 mn t during the first two months of the current Persian year (20 Mar- 20 May'20), according to data released by IMIDRO.
Installation of new DRI units with increased private sector participation has lifted Iran's DRI output in recent years.
Mobarakeh Steel Company was the largest producer of DRI in Iran, with output gaining by 2% y-o-y to 1.43 mn t. Khouzestan Steel Company lowered output by 23% y-o-y to 0.89 mn t.
Other major producers during the period were Gol Gohar (0.51 mn t), Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Company (0.28 mn t), South Kaveh Steel (0.28 mn t), Saba Steel (0.26 mn t) and Hormozgan Steel (0.25 mn t).
Iran produced 12 mn t DRI during Jan-May'20, added IMIDRO. While comparative data for the previous calendar year is not available, the country had produced 13.8 mn t DRI in the 21 Dec'18-21 May'19 period of the previous Persian new year.
