JSW Steel: Iron Ore Sourcing Fell 66% M-o-M in Apr'20

JSW Steel- India's one of the largest private steelmaker total iron ore sourcing recorded at 0.72 MnT in Apr'20. The sourcing witnessed 66% drop as against 2.09 MnT in Mar'20. The sourcing fell amid logistic issues and closure due to COVID 19.
Company's BSE filings towards the end of Mar'20, JSW Steel highlighted that the manufacturing operations in all of the locations had been either scaled down or suspended (in certain locations).
The company had notified the BSE that "Considering the evolving scenario of complete lockdown with exception to certain specified essential activities, the manufacturing operations in all of our locations have since been either scaled down or suspended (in certain locations). Consequently, capacity utilization is expected to go down significantly during this period of lockdown."
Sourcing from Odisha fell in Apr'20
The steelmaker procured 0.04 MnT iron ore from Odisha based miners in Apr'20, down 87% as compared to 0.29 MnT in Mar'20.
Sourcing from NMDC (C.G.) dropped for the month
JSW Steel (Dolvi) sourcing from NMDC fell by 58% to 0.17 MnT (43 rakes) in Apr'20 against 0.40 MnT(103 rakes) in Mar'20.
JSW iron ore purchases from Karnataka e-auction down 64% in Apr'20
JSW total sourcing for the month of Apr'20 stood at around 0.51 MnT iron ore down sharply by 64% against 1.4 MnT in the month of Mar'20.
Out of 0.51 MnT iron ore sourced by JSW, NMDC supplied 0.45 MnT and thus contributed around 88% of total JSW sourcing. SMIORE mines remained second-largest iron ore supplier to JSW Steel at 0.06 MnT in Apr'20.
JSW Steel imports recorded nil in Apr'20
JSW Steel imports witnessed nil for the eleventh consecutive month in Apr'20. Monthly average global iron ore fines (Fe 62%) prices decreased by 5% to USD 83.95/MT, CFR China in Apr'20 against last month at USD 88.1/MT, CFR China.
